Book Review for: Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

At the climax of the book ‘Children of Blood and Bone’, situations just kept getting intensified in every chapter. This book is not at all light, it’s just as dark as its name and cover, but it’s good.

I found this book to be a mixture of Throne of Glass, Crooked Kingdom and A Court of Wings and Ruins all together. If you’ve read the books I just mentioned, you’d probably feel like you’ve read this type of book many times already. But if you are planning to start reading something in the Fantasy genre and you haven’t read those books, this should be your pick.

Some of the characters were interesting, some annoying and some even intimidating, but none of them were boring. The most interesting part of this book was their beautiful description of locations and little sweet glimpses of African cultures.

I would rate this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

My favorite quote: “I teach you to be warriors in the garden so you will never be gardeners in the war.”

About the story: Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls. But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.

Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.
