Forty Rules of Love is the kind of book that leaves an impact on you and your life, probably forever. It definitely did for me.
If we judge this remarkable literary work by its name it will at first look like just another romance, rom-com or a YA and childish novel. And if you judge this book by its cover, it’ll look like a box of delicious chicken biryani masala (as my sibling proclaimed it to be). But it most definitely is not. This book was deep, dark and it thoroughly amused and entertained me.
It was so very different from all the books I had read before. I was stunned and amused at the same time. This book had make me think, contemplate and then re-think so many subjects. In fact it was so distracting, it gave me odd and peculiar dreams at night.
Every character in this book had their own kind of magic and their own kind of justification to everything situation which somehow all made sense. It had so much going on, and I loved it immensely.
But I must confess that I could not fully agree on some verses the character Shams of Tabriz had explained in this book, and I could not agree with a couple of his rules. While I was in the middle of this book I was conflicted on where to place him in my mind, in the right place or the wrong. I still am stuck in the middle.
I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟/5
