Book Review for: P.S. I Still Like You by Kaise West

Updated: Jan 3, 2022

I don’t know why - I just DO NOT understand why I thought I’d get entertained by P.S I Still Like You. I had set my bars very low for this book, but it couldn’t even reach that. I am sorry, but I want a full refund.

Spoilers Alert!!! Spoilers Alert!!!

The cover screams cheesy YA romance - something I was looking forward to indulging myself into after completing an emotionally draining novel, but I did not get anything as such from it. The first 200 pages of this 336 pages of book had nothing - NOTHING new or interesting to read. I wanted to throw this book into my DNF pile constantly, wondering why oh why have I been picking only the boring books up this year.

This book is about Lily, an aspiring lyricist who fears showing her work to the world, even though they are amazing. There is only one person she religiously hates at school, and that is Cade, her best friend’s ex. She can’t stop hating him and it’s described quite frequently in every chapter. She also hates chemistry class, so to spend her time, she find a mystery letter exchanger. She slowly falls in love with this mystery guy – until she finds out who he is…

I think the climax of this book is quite predictable but I’m going to keep it a *mystery* for you all.

The author kept describing the main character’s lifestyle too descriptively throughout the book instead of getting the main story started, and I do get it, young adult novels are almost always the same, but come on, a little more twists and turns wouldn’t have hurt.

The book had the same old lame ass “smug boy thinks high of himself and smiles slowly but he’s a sweet and soft mushy being on the inside.” character. I mean, really? I know writing is difficult, it’s not easy at all, but that doesn’t mean that you’ll write the same thing! The book lacks creativity; it was plain boring and so very typical.

It was so boring I didn’t even feel the spark when the main characters kissed after 300 pages of work, I was just reading through it like every other chapter.

The only thing I liked about this book was the song lyrics Lily (the main character) wrote. And that’s it.

2.5 out of 5 star for PS I STILL LIKE YOU because I’m a very kind person.

I should’ve read the review of this book before buying it instead of doing it the other way around.
